The first match got off to a brilliant start. Thanks to the high level of concentration shown by Marius Arnold, Anton Steklschikow and Leonard Dederer, the team won the first set 25–15. However, the second set proved to be a closer affair. The players from the school in Vechta found their rhythm and at one point led by as many as five points, before our team managed to mount a comeback. The Georgianum pulled ahead to 23–20 before coach Martin Glosemeyer made a substitution error, which led to the score being levelled at 21–21. Somewhat unsettled, the team lost the second set and then the match as well.
In the second match against the really strong players from the host school in Oldenburg, Noah Zell, Joni Ramonllari and Matti Lambers had a right good time. Noah, in particular, shone with his spirited play and total commitment. But Leonard and Anton were also on fire as always and scored plenty of points with good attacks and great receptions, even though the 0–2 set defeat was inevitable. And yet the team celebrated. Anton, Leni and Mr Glosemeyer in particular created a great atmosphere, emphasising that it wasn’t about winning, but about having fun.
A big thank you goes to Leni Teepen for supporting the team and to bus driver Jens, who drove us safely from Lingen to Oldenburg and back.
