In the cultural studies section of this year’s Mathematics Olympiad, Tjark Thnönnißen was set four tasks, which he completed so well that he was ultimately awarded a certificate of achievement.
Madelon Hibbel was also pleased; on Sunday morning, she briefed Mr Glosemeyer on the journey and key details. Madelon managed to score at least one point on every task. In total, she achieved 12 out of 40 points. It wasn’t quite enough for a prize, but her enthusiasm and enjoyment were evident over the phone. And that’s what it’s all about.
