After a very short night (departure at 5.30 am) and a four-hour drive, our volleyball players shone from the very first second with their enthusiasm and superb plays. In their opening matches, both teams faced one of the strongest opponents of the day:
Tournament results for Year 3
Wk III : Gym. Oedeme 2:0
With extremely powerful serves, we managed to catch the strong players from Lüneburg off guard and prevent them from getting into the game. At the start of the second set, they showed us that they too can play volleyball, leaving us trailing 1–6. With plenty of courage and team spirit, we staged a comeback and secured a well-deserved first victory of the day!
Week III: Hannover 2–0 (15–2, 15–8)
No matter the line-up: we were in control of the match and shone throughout with great attacks and serves.
Week III: MK Braunschweig 2–0 (15–9, 15–11)
One more win and the dream of Berlin would become a reality! Now, after a long day, we had to maintain our concentration and play with precision in our build-up. We succeeded, and the ensuing celebrations over the tournament victory were boundless!
Tournament progress for Wk IV
Wk IV: MK Braunschweig 2:0
Our youngest volleyball players were also at 100% from the very first second and showed, with precise sets and attacks, that we deserved to have travelled to the state final. Powerful serves put the opponents under enormous pressure, allowing us to secure a clear victory in the first match of the day.
Wk IV : Bad Pyrmont 2:1 (11:15, 15:9, 15:11)
The start against Hannover was unexpected: the midday slump set in and nothing seemed to go right: missed serves, balls flying everywhere but not where they were meant to go, and due to imprecise passing, we couldn’t build any pressure in attack. Consequently, we deservedly lost the first and only set of the day. With renewed courage and as if shaken awake, we finally got off to a proper start in the second set. Our touch and confidence were back, so that we were eventually able to win the tie-break!
Week IV: Gym. Oedeme 2:0 (15:11, 15:9)
One more win and the dream of Bad Blankenburg would become a reality! Highly focused and playing with pure joy, we fought our way to victory point by point. No matter who was on the court, every player made a valuable contribution, so that even in Wk IV, the celebrations for the tournament victory were huge when the final point was scored!
Worth mentioning: an opposing player from Oedeme showed great sportsmanship by voluntarily informing the umpires that she had touched a ball we had played, even though the umpires had ruled against us: respect for such fair play!
During the four-hour journey home, we were able to raise a toast in the winners’ coach (our Bersenbrück carpool also secured the tournament victory in Division II) and celebrate loudly to Andreas Bourani’s “Auf uns”! The now traditional stop at Mecces was, of course, a must. A perfect day that will hopefully remain in all our memories for a long time to come.
The anticipation of what now lies ahead is huge for everyone involved: Division III is heading to our capital, Berlin, from 5–9 May 2026 for the German Championship! Division IV will have to wait a little longer, but anticipation is often one of the greatest joys: we get to take part in the German Championship in Bad Blankenburg this November!
The Lower Saxony state champions are now...
… in WK III: Theresa Hilvert, Nele Schaaf, Marit Echelmeyer, Lotta Egbring, Mila Teepker, Lilly Sager, Masa Alkhatib
…and in WK IV: Ida Lambers, Enni Tegeder, Anna Hungeling, Franziska Kues and Johanne Arns
… as well as teachers Jennifer Beel and Martin Glosemeyer.
Congratulations on this magnificent double success!
