Denglish in PE lessons – The Artland Dragons visit the Georgianum

Connor Van demonstrated everything and offered top tips, in Denglish. “I speak a mix of English and German, so I prefer Denglish,” said Anthony, who, as well as playing for the second-division team in Quakenbrück, also coaches the U14s. And it showed. With a real knack for working with kids, he inspired the boys and girls and had them spellbound. Tips on dribbling, lay-ups and shooting were shared, and teacher Martin Glosemeyer also picked up a few exercises or two.

At the end, everyone clapped for the pair and were proud to have been there: learning from the pros. “We’d like to thank you for the invitation and are delighted to have been here,” said Thomas, who will be back in March when he visits Ms Börger’s other Year 6 sports class with his players. Headteacher Lucas Sieberg and Deputy Head Dirk Sydow were also present and welcomed the pair. “We think it’s brilliant that you’ve come to visit us,” said Sieberg, sharing the children’s excitement.

In the end, the two stars didn’t leave empty-handed either. The sports class had brought along two huge bars of chocolate. “These are for you, because almost all of us love chocolate,” said Glosemeyer. And then there was the sports class pencil and the accompanying story, as well as the favourite bookmark, which all the children recited from memory.

Thank you so much for coming to see us here at the Georgianum, Brandon and Anthony. We really enjoyed our time with you because we could feel how much you love basketball. And that spark has rubbed off on us.
